When News is Not News

I photographed President Obama yesterday announcing his appointment of Sen. Judd Gregg, Republican of New Hampshire, as his administration's new Commerce Secretary. That would normally be big news - a Republican joining a Democrat's cabinet, and Commerce is an important position in these times, with plenty of responsibility for fixing the economy. Of course, no sooner was this announcement made than Tom Daschle withdrew from consideration for HHS Secretary.

It's hard not to be mindful of the history being made every day when photographing Obama, and I find my pictures wind up leaning towards the iconic (see first image).
