"Dignified transfer of remains" is the military jargon for when members of the armed services killed in action are returned to American soil, specifically at Dover Air Force Base. As you may recall, photographs of these were prohibited from 1991 until very recently, and the other day I had the honor of covering one involving two men killed in Afghanistan.

Friday, July 17, 2009Not in the Script
I was covering a speech by President Obama the other day when the screen from one of his (infamous) teleprompters spontaneously fell to the ground and smashed, right while he was talking. He played it cool and didn't make a fuss, and I don't believe anyone made a picture of it actually falling. Secretly all the photographers cheered, because those teleprompters get in our way an awful lot.
