Tonight Critical Exposure is holding a print auction fundraiser here in DC, featuring a photo of mine among those by others such as Steve McCurry. The event, Picture Equality: An Evening of Empowerment Through Photography, benefits the nonprofit, which teaches middle and high school students to document issues that impact their lives through photography and to use their images and voices to advocate for change. This, like tons of other events in town this week, is part of FotoWeek/DC. It's a good cause!

I photographed President Bush's closing statement at the G20 summit this past weekend. The pictures there were fine, but I like this other one better, which was snapped out the window our police-escorted motorcade of charter buses for the press. Let's just say there was a little bit of security involved in the whole affair.

One of the interesting things about shooting for a wire service, in this case Getty, is that you never know where your pictures will end up. So, one morning you can be surfing a New York Times article about Barack Obama, as I was last week, and realize that your picture is there with it. It's a nice feeling.

I was covering the White House yesterday for Getty Images, and finally had the opportunity to fulfill a desire I've had ever since I started shooting in DC: ride in the President's motorcade. It's not that glamorous, but honestly, it is a little.

It's not what I spend the majority of my time doing, but I wanted to put up some portraits I've done recently that I was reasonably happy with. First is Dominique Strass-Kahn, the managing director of the IMF (not a job I want at the moment); maybe it's nothing special, but I thought the light was particularly nice - and you should have seen where they wanted me to do this picture. Lord love a two-minute portrait session! Second is Tony Dennis, an up-and-coming musician.
