The USNS Comfort is a 900 foot long U.S. Naval hospital ship that deployed to Haiti following the earthquake there that killed an estimated 200,000 or more people. With a medical staff of more than 500 and capacity for 1000 patients at a time, the most severely injured earthquake victims are airlifted by helicopter to the ship, where they can be treated in one of a dozen operating rooms by specialists ranging from neurosurgeons to optometrists. The Comfort will remain in Haiti until further notice. These and other images are available in my archive. photo [at] brendanhoffman.com | +1.202.285.1391 | © 2010 |
