“The Drolma La is the highest point of the kora around Mount Kailash, at 5630 meters, or nearly 18,500 feet. The remote Tibetan mountain is considered sacred by four different religions: Buddhism, Hinduism, Bön, and Jainism. The kora is a circumambulation of the mountain, clockwise for all but Bönpo, on a path that covers 56 kilometers, or 35 miles. As I paused to take in my surroundings and congratulate myself on achieving this physical feat, these two Buddhist women arrived and began taking selfies. While many locals do the multi-day trek regularly, it is still a spiritual journey worth remembering.”
