Magnum Foundation Grantee 2019

November 25, 2019 in News

I’m very excited to have been selected as a 2019 grantee of the Magnum Foundation, which will enable me to carry out an extension of The Beating of the Heart, my long-term work in Webster City, Iowa. The grant is in partnership with the Economic Hardship Reporting Project.

My work will involve collaborating with Webster City’s local daily print newspaper, the Freeman-Journal at a time when Iowa is in the national spotlight. For approximately two and a half months, starting December 1, I will be the paper’s photographer-in-residence, conducting daily assignments while also leading a visual storytelling workshop for local students, community members and newspaper contributors. Area residents can sign up for the workshop through Legacy Learning Boone River Valley.

The Daily Freeman-Journal is also the recent recipient of a Facebook Journalism Project Community Network Grant, partially in connection with my collaboration with the paper.
